TURNER — Taylor Renee Ouellette of Turner has been awarded a $1,000 Diane E. Curtis Medical Scholarship.
It is given annually to a deserving student in either Oxford or Androscoggin county who wishes to pursue a career in the medical field.
Ouellette is a junior studying biology at the University of Maine in pursuit of a medical career.
The scholarship was started in 2014 by Norway resident Tom Curtis in honor of his late wife Diane.
Diane succumbed to metastatic breast cancer in early 2014. She worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and then with IBM before she and her husband converted their summer home in Norway and retired there. While in Norway, Diane became a part business owner in an established Norway business.
Applicants must complete a form discussing what community and volunteering activities he or she is or has been involved in, what leadership qualities he or she has displayed, provide a transcript of high school or college grades, at least two letters of recommendation and the reasons behind his or her decision to pursue a medical career.
The Scholarship Committee said Ouellette possessed the qualities it was seeking and that she met all of the application requirements.
Ouellette will receive the $1,000 upon forwarding the committee her first-semester grades from college next winter.
