PARIS — The Paris Public Library is offering a variety of activities and programs for children this summer.

Chris Van Dusen: This author/illustrator will visit at 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Forum to kick off the library’s summer activities for children. Van Dusen will read from some of his works, show how he illustrates stories and autograph books.

Conjuring Carroll: He will return to perform his magic show at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Forum at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15.

“Zootopia”: The film will be shown at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Forum at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25.

The Amazing Race: The library edition arrives at the library at 1 p.m. Friday, July 22. Teams of participants will weave through a variety of literary roadblocks and detours.

Minecraft group play: There will be a Minecraft group play session at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the library.

Harry Potter birthday party: The library’s annual Harry Potter birthday party is at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31. It will feature wizarding world games and crafts. Preregistration is required to assure there are enough wands for everyone.

Story-Walk for Cornwall Nature Preserve: Children are invited to help construct a Story-Walk for the Cornwall Nature Preserve at 1 p.m. Friday, June 24. Participants will construct individual Story-Walk panels. At 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, those interested in installing the walk will meet at the Cornwall Preserve. The book “One Small Place in a Tree” will be divided up so trail hikers can enjoy sections as they stroll through the preserve.

Fourth of July crafts: 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, June 27. All ages welcome.

Perler Bead Craft Night: 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 28. All ages welcome.

Freezer Paper Stencil T-shirts: 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 19. Participants are asked to bring their own T-shirt. All ages welcome.

Sharpie Mug Craft Night: 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9. All ages welcome.

“Handwritten Notes”: Children are invited to discover how people communicated before computers with this program at 1 p.m. Monday, July 25. Participants will write and address a note to someone they wish to ask a question or share a thought with.

“Family Read-aloud”: Event is in the Children’s Room at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2. The book “The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip” by George Saunders will be dramatically read aloud by audience members. Signups requested by July 26 so there are enough copies of the book available for all.

Lego Kit Afternoon: 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 13. Children may vote between July 1 and 5 on the library’s website, Facebook page or in the library on which Lego sets they would like to construct.

The library will again offer math and language arts summer quiz sheets throughout July. Each week, there will be two $5 prize drawings from successfully completed sheets.

This summer, the library’s Summer Reading Challenge is being revamped. Participants are being asked to read eight books at or above their reading level and complete several reading challenges. Those who complete all challenges and turn in their reading log by Wednesday, Aug. 17, will earn a variety of rewards.

There will be an ice cream sundae party for Summer Reading Challenge participants on the afternoon of Aug. 20. Prizes and certificates will be distributed.

All events are free and open to children in the Oxford Hills area.
