FARMINGTON — Tom Ward, superintendent of Regional School Unit 9, said Wednesday that the school board will meet Thursday to discuss a timeline for a second budget vote.

The proposed budget of $32.97 million for 2016-17 was defeated Tuesday1,518 to 1,715. It was an increase of $929,273 over this fiscal year.

Voters in Farmington, Industry, Starks and Weld approved the budget. Chesterville, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Temple, Vienna and Wilton voters rejected it.

Ward said he expects to recommend a timeline for a second districtwide meeting and vote and a referendum in each town.

The board will also be asked to approve Tuesday’s voting results.

He said he does not believe possible budget reductions will be discussed Thursday.

The meeting will start with an expulsion hearing at 6 p.m. in the Forum at Mt. Blue Campus. The high school student is accused of having drugs on school property, Ward said.

The regular board meeting is expected to start at 7 p.m. The agenda includes school lunch prices and the status of the food service program. New Food Service Director Andrew Hutchins will give the update, according to the agenda.
