1924 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Iva D. Lake, “Dad’s little chickadee”, flew off on Monday, June 13, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1924, in Blaine, the daughter of Gordon E. and Helen B. (Piper) Thomas. She attended elementary school in Aroostook and then in 1939, her family moved to Benton where she attended Lawrence High School in Fairfield. On Feb. 14, 1942, Iva married Harold Lake in Farmington. She worked all through her life starting when she was a child in Aroostook picking potatoes and ending with 10 years at Norwalk Shoe and then for 17 years at G.H. Bass & Co., retiring in 1986. Iva was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Farmington and the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, canning, knitting and family gathering.

She is survived by two sons, Vincent Lake and Arnold Lake; three daughters, Shirley Beane and husband, Ken, Linda Dwinal and husband, Jim, Cindy Bartlett and husband, Ron; 17 grandchildren, Jackie, Vinnie, Barbra, Janette, Sharon, Tom, Judy, Kelly, Dickie, Tammy, Tim, Karen, Angela, Hal, Erin, Shanae and Shane; 29 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Goldie Small of Seminole, Fla.; her brother in-law and sister in-law, Lloyd and George Ann Lake.

She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Harold; her sisters, Glenna Compton, Evelyn Thomas, Eldora Durrell and Edna Collins; her brothers, Fred Thomas and Bernard Thomas; and her daughter-in-law, Betty Lake.
