GREENE — The School Administrative District 52 school board learned at its meeting Thursday night that a judicial settlement meeting involving the district’s sale of a parcel of land to the town has been delayed again.

SAD 52 proposed selling a 73-acre parcel to Greene that was originally purchased for a new school that was never built. Greene plans to use the land for recreation fields.

Turner selectmen have objected to the $40,000 sale price. The property, which was purchased for around $83,000 in 1991, is assessed by Greene at $73,000.

A temporary stay preventing the sale from going forward is currently in effect.

Originally, a judicial settlement meeting was scheduled for June 24. However, in a written report provided by Superintendent Henry Aliberti Thursday night, members learned Aliberti hasn’t heard from counsel about when the judicial settlement meeting will take place.

In other business, board members certified votes from Greene, Leeds and Turner that approved proposed renovations for the track at Leavitt Area High School on June 14.

Items to be addressed include:

• Overhaul of the substructure and surface of the track;
• Moving the pole vault and long jump pits;
• Fixing drainage issues; and
• Improvements to the soccer field.

The school board voted unanimously to approve $550,705 for the project.

Member Jon Woodard moved to create a new position of adult basic education coordinator with an annual salary of $34,000. Vice Chairman Diana Morgan seconded the motion.

Morgan explained that the salary expense was included in the approved budget for the upcoming fiscal year. She previously said the position will cover duties that four previous hourly positions provided at a cost of $35,000 last year.

The board approved the new position by a unanimous vote.

Director of Transportation and Facilities Kim Long reported that she recently met with the bus drivers and began working on more efficient bus routes for the 2016-17 school year.

She described “real-time” computer software that will enable parents to enter their address and find the closest bus stop.

“Because it is real-time it is more accurate and adapts as new pickups are put in,” Long said. “Parents can send questions or make comments, and they show up in my email.”

Long also outlined the many facility improvement projects that will be completed during the summer, including cleaning, repairs and painting.
