LEWISTON — A celebration of service for retiring Lewiston Police Chief Michael Bussiere will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, 415 Lisbon St.

The public is invited to attend.

Bussiere, a Lewiston native, grew up in Lewiston’s Holy Cross neighborhood and was sworn in as a police officer on April 9, 1990. He served as a patrol officer, drug enforcement agent and detective before being promoted to sergeant in 1998, and deputy chief in 2002.

Bussiere was the second in command for seven years until he was promoted to chief in August 2009.

Bussiere is recognized throughout the community and the state as advocate of crime reduction initiatives such as Operation Hot Spots. During his time as chief, Lewiston’s crime rate has decreased 40 percent.
