FARMINGTON — The Regional School Unit 9 board of directors Thursday night approved a budget of $32.75 million for fiscal year 2016-17.
It’s $278,653 less than the one voters rejected June 14.
The new spending plan represents a 2.1 percent tax reduction over last year’s budget. Eight of the 10 towns — Chesterville, Farmington, Industry, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Temple, Vienna and Wilton — will see a reduction in their assessments.
Starks and Weld will see an increase in their assessments, because of property valuation, Superintendent Thomas Ward said.
A districtwide budget meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, in the Bjorn Auditorium at the Mt. Blue Campus to vote on the budget.
A referendum to validate the amount approved July 14 will be held in each town on Thursday, July 28. Directors allowed more time than usual between the two votes because people on vacation may want to vote by absentee ballot.
