WOODSTOCK — Town Manager Vern Maxfield told the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday evening that a public hearing will be held July 19 on whether to abandon a section of Ricker Road.
Maxfield said the town has “only plowed to a certain point on Ricker Road for as long as I’ve been here.”
The remaining 1,600 feet of the road belongs to resident Warren Hillquist, according to the town manager.
“He has asked us to consider abandoning that section of the road,” Maxfield said. “It’s something that we’ve wanted to do a number of years ago, but it just never happened.”
State law states that if a road is not maintained by the town for more than 30 years, it can be abandoned.
Ricker Road is off Billings Hill Road.
The public hearing will begin at 6 p.m., following the board’s regular meeting.
In other business, the board voted 3-0 to donate $500 to a local softball team playing at an all-stars game from July 13-17 in Barrington, N.H.
“I think it’s great to do this,” Chairman Ron Deegan said. “It’s good to keep our kids active and outdoors.”
