Two Sun-Journal photographers, Raymond H. Philbrick of Auburn and Harold E. Houghton of Lewiston, have purchased a well-known Lewiston photographic studio, Tash Inc. at 17 Park St. (once the Dora Clark Tash Studio) and plan to re-open the establishment Aug. 1. The transfer of ownership took place Friday, with Philbrick and Houghton buying the firm from the heirs of the former operator of the studio, Burgess A. Gray. The new owners said the studio would continue to specialize in quality portraiture, utilizing the latest equipment. They plan to be active, too, in the commercial and industrial fields of photography.

When U.S. Postal Service officials faced 50 irate residents last week in Poland Town Hall, it was like opening a hornet’s nest. There wasn’t one friendly voice. Residents were unanimously upset about postal plans to close the Poland post office and move operations to Poland Spring, at the same time venting pent-up objections about other recent postal decisions. Only with difficulty did Beecher Doody, the post office discontinuance coordinator and Fairfield postmaster, manage to keep the crowd in control at the hearing Wednesday. Question and answer dialogues often turned quickly into oral clutter until, after two hours of raucous heckling, the informational meeting ended in chaos.
