1922 – 2016
AUBURN — Bernice Mushlit passed away at the Hospice House in Auburn on Saturday, July 23, with her son, Frank, by her side.
She was born March 30, 1922, the fourth child of Henry and Caroline Otto. She spent her early years and attended Catholic school in Woodhaven, N.Y. She married Clinton Mushlit on Oct. 12, 1940.
Affectionately called Bunny, she lived in upstate New York with her family, always first in her life. Clinton died Aug. 1, 1976. She moved to Maine to be closer to her son, Ed, and enjoyed life, making many friends at the YWCA and Holy Family Parish. Bunny was an Eucharistic minister and loved serving shut-ins for many years.
She loved to travel, play cards and bingo, and watch “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.” She resided at Chapman House since 2011, where she received wonderful care.
Bunny is survived by her sister and best friend, Loretta Eckoff of Beth Page, N.Y.; her sons, Ed (Barbara) Mushlit of Monmouth, Frank (Linda) Mushlit of Hernando, Fla., Paul (Wendy) Mushlit of Kingston, N.Y.; as well as two daughters-in-law, Betsy Mayberry of Portland and Maureen Mushlit of Newburgh, N.Y. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Ed and Harold; sister, Florence; husband, Clinton; sons, Jim and Gerard; and grandson, Brandon.
Her family wishes to thank the staffs of Chapman House and Hospice House for their loving and constant care.
