Green/Mirror Pond

OXFORD — The Green/Mirror Pond Association annual meeting and picnic will be held Saturday, July 30, at the Oxford Recreation Center, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members, future members and the public are invited. The Association will provide hamburgers and a food item to share would be appreciated. Come and join the group.

Daughters of Union Veterans

WATERVILLE — Eighteen members from four tents of the Daughters of Union Veterans met for the 104th annual convention on June 24.

The convention opened with a granddaughters’ breakfast. The meeting was called to order by Vicky Myers, department president. Elected officers and appointed officers remain the same until 2017. Reports were given.  A memorial service has held for departed sisters.

It was voted to hold the 105th convention on June 23, 2017, at the Hampton Inn.

Bethel Seniors 

HANOVER — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Stony Brook Campground for the annual picnic. Members should bring a salad or desert to share. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Reservations are required by Monday, Aug. 1.

Historical Society

HARRISON — Harrison Historical Society will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the museum. This is the annual meeting with election of officers.

If you do not attend, you may be elected to serve next year. The program will be showing new and interesting items. Come and enjoy these artifacts, people, and thank all those who have volunteered so much of their time.

NORWAY — Members of The Weary Club will meet the first Wednesday of August (Aug. 3) at 2 p.m. in the public meeting room at the Norway Town Office for the annual meeting.

OXFORD — The Twin Town Nature Club will meet Monday, Aug. 1, at 9 a.m. in the Oxford Walmart parking lot (south side near Route 26), and carpool to Reid State Park in Georgetown.  Visitors are welcome.  Bring a picnic lunch and beach gear.

Knitting Guild

OXFORD — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Eleanor Heinrich’s home on Route 26 (Main Street) in Oxford.  The group will meet at 9:45 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in South Paris, to carpool to Eleanor’s or you may go straight to her home if you prefer.

This will be a pool party, so bring your bathing suits. There will also be a potluck luncheon so please bring something to share.  The group will knit and chat as well as swim and have lunch.

If you have not already brought your cowls and other items for the fair exhibit, please be sure to bring them to the meeting in order that they may be taken to Oxford County Fair.  The theme for this year is “Cowls.”  However, many other items will be needed to fill in the display.

Many items were displayed at the Waterford Fair this year and the group sincerely hopes to have a few more items turned in to fill the display at Oxford County Fair.

Women’s Cancer Support Group

NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced the start of the Women’s Cancer Support Group.

The group will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at 199 Main St. in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building. 

The next meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 2.

RUMFORD — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club’s annual potluck summer gathering will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, at 12 p.m. at Fox Run Farm, Wyman Hill Road in Rumford (for directions, go to mainehoneybees.com).
