GREENWOOD — The town is celebrating its bicentennial from Aug. 12 to 14, with businesses, organizations and residents hosting a variety of events, Town Manager Kim Sparks said.

A story published on B2 of the Region edition Tuesday incorrectly stated the Greenwood bicentennial celebration was happening this weekend.

Sparks said the Planning Committee has helped organize a large number of events over the weekend of Aug. 12, including a parade centered around the theme, “Greenwood Through the Ages.”

“There’s a lot of creative people out there making floats for the parade,” Sparks said. “We’ll also have a band playing music (from the Civil War era) in the parade.”

A silent auction will be held at the Greenwood Town Hall on Saturday, Aug. 13, Sparks said, with decorated school desks from the Locke Mills School being offered to residents who sign up.

The Greenwood Historical Society will be open all three days of the celebration. Among the events scheduled at the historical society are a book-signing by Addison Verrill and a school reunion.
