Minot Historical Society meets

MINOT — Walt Bannon from the Maine Antique Bottle and Glass Museum recently spoke at a Minot Historical Society meeting. He brought and discussed artifacts he found in local streams.

Eda Tripp reported on the successful amount of money raised at the Moto-Cross food sale, the yard sale and the silent auction.

Upcoming events include the histories of the three local churches at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9; Minot Community Day at the Hemonds Moto-Cross Park on Sept. 17; and a combined meeting with the Hebron Historical Society, including a potluck supper and speakers John Ford, retired warden, and Mark Nickerson, retired state trooper.

A chili and chowder competition will take place in October.

Yard sale benefiting Project Graduation

POLAND — The Poland Regional High School Project Graduation 2017 committee will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the high school, 1457 Maine St. The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 21.

Anyone interested in donating items to the sale, excluding clothing, can be dropped off in Minot by contacting 207-713-4910 or in Mechanic Falls at 207-345-9008.

There will also be tables to rent for $15 for those wishing to sell items. Tables must be reserved by Friday, Aug. 12, at 207-345-9008. 

All proceeds benefit Project Graduation 2017.

‘Let’s Talk about It’ book talk

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Public Library will host Matthew Cost speaking on Joshua Chamberlain as part of the Let’s Talk About It Book discussion Series on Civil War Fiction. This is the final talk, and it will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, on the third floor of the library at 108 Lewiston St.

The discussion will focus on the book “March” by Geraldine Brooks. The public is welcome to the author talk and discussion.

Substitute Training at SAD 52

TURNER — SAD 52 Adult & Community Education has announced the offering of Substitute Training Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Participants will learn about the district’s school expectations, teacher’s lesson plans and assertive discipline.

This course is one step in the substitute teacher application for SAD 52. A high school diploma is required, and a college degree preferred.

Registration is required.
