1935 – 2016
LEWISTON — Edith M. Toomey, 81, a resident of Spring Street, Auburn, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 6, at Central Maine Medical Center, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Chelsea, Mass., Jan. 31, 1935, the daughter of Albert and Alice (Hamilton) Bent. Edith was employed as a CNA for many years at Pineland Hospital in Pownal.
Following her retirement, she enjoyed being a foster grandparent at local schools. She also enjoyed her Friday lunches with friends, as well as spending time with her family.
Survivors include six daughters, Edith Linscott and husband, Alton, of Cape Coral, Fla., May Eastman of Lewiston, Joyce Hamilton and husband, Jeffrey Sr., of New Gloucester, Karen Toomey and fiancé, James Pittro of Lehigh, Fla., Dorothy Wildes and husband, Eric, of Cape Porpoise, and Sherrie Pelletier of Auburn; her one and only son, Charles Toomey Jr. of Auburn; three sisters, Elaine, Helen and Carol; four brothers, Albert, Ernest, Edward and Russell; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Alice and Bertha; one daughter, Betty Pownall; and two grandsons, Albert and George Pelletier.
