1917 – 2016

AUBURN — Gladys F. LaPlante, 99, of Lewiston died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Hospice House with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Dixfield on April 25, 1917, the daughter of Herbert L. Bruce and Lottie M. (Wilbur) Bruce. She grew up in the Dixfield area and graduated from Weld High School in 1935.

She loved being a homemaker, cooking and taking care of her family. Everyone looked forward to her homemade relish and wild black raspberry pies. She was very kind, making everyone feel welcome. She enjoyed knitting, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards with family and friends and watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.”

She will be missed by her three daughters, Laurie Cote and husband, Francis, of Minot, Nora Doucette of Lewiston, and Nanci Cole of Lewiston; four grandchildren, U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Cote, Barbara Larrabee, Chris Cote and Eric Doucette; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Paul A. LaPlante; and two sisters, Louise Dunham and Dorothy Elliott.

Gladys’ family thanks the Hospice House for the excellent care she received and Funeral Alternatives for its genuine concern and invaluable help with arrangements.
