LIVERMORE FALLS — Police said a Wilton man was driving drunk and texting when his truck hit a traffic light pole on Main Street on Sunday night.

Officer Vernon Stevens arrested Robert Danforth, 50, on a misdemeanor charge of operating under the influence with one prior, Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday.

Danforth’s truck was turning off Church Street onto Main Street when it hit the pole holding the traffic signal and pedestrian crossing lights near Western Auto, Steward said. Danforth was texting at the time of the crash, according to Steward.

The pedestrian crossing light is no longer working, Steward said.

Danforth was taken to the police station, where he was released on personal recognizance bail. He is scheduled to appear in Lewiston District Court on Oct. 12.

Danforth’s 1998 Ford pickup was towed from the scene because of damage.
