Madrid Historical Society open house

MADRID — Madrid Historical Society will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

The museum will be open, and Historical Society members will be present to answer questions.

Watershed committee to meet

ROXBURY — The Ellis Pond Watershed Committee and the Silver Lake Camp Owners Association will host an informational meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary’s Chapel.

Jeff Stern, grant coordinator, will present information and status updates on watershed projects. Stern and his colleague, Michele Windsor, are making themselves available at no charge for technical assistance in the design and implementation of remediation projects.

Stern will also present information about available grant funds for remediation of sources of nonpoint phosphorus in the watershed. These grants are available to all landowners in the watershed.

Temple community day Aug. 20

TEMPLE — The Temple Historical Society and the Recreation Committee will host a community event with a potluck, live music and games at the Red Schoolhouse from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug 20. 

Beans, hot dogs and desserts will be provided. Those attending should bring a side dish to share.

The Fire Department, Fireman’s Auxiliary, and all-terrain vehicle club will assist in moving everything to the Red Schoolhouse for the event.

If it rains, the event will be moved to the Temple Town Hall.

Scribners Mill holding tours

HARRISON — Scribners Mill will be open for tours of the mill and homestead from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at 244 Scribners Mill Road.

Tours of the mill will include a demonstration of the 19th century machinery used to manufacture parts for dry (slack) barrels around 2:30 p.m. In the long shed, demonstrations of the shingle mill will take place around 3 p.m. Across the street, the 1849 Scribner Homestead will be open.

The mill site, which includes the barn, ice house, and blacksmith shop, holds a large collection of antique mill, household and ice-harvesting equipment.

Adult admission is $5.

Donations sought for benefit sale

NEW SHARON — Donations are being sought for a benefit yard and craft sale for the Connie Gilman/Joseph Douin Liver Transplant Fund. Gilman, of Norridgewock, has been diagnosed with liver disease. Douin is donating part of his liver to Gilman. 

The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Tuttle’s Auto Sales.

Donations may be dropped off at Tuttle’s Auto until Aug. 26. 

Crafters may reserve table space for $25 each for a 10- by 20-foot spot. Those attending should bring their table and booth supplies.

Alumni seek donations for sale

RANGELEY — The second annual yard sale to benefit scholarships for graduating seniors at Rangeley Lakes Regional School will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at 2632 Main St.

The Alumni Association is seeking donations of items for the sale. Donations may be dropped off at 2632 Main St. or pickup is available by contacting 207-864-3470.

The association’s annual meeting will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at 2632 Main St. All Rangeley school alumni, whether they graduated or not, are invited. Refreshments will be served.
