AUSTIN, Texas — Ernest “Ernie” A. Chandonnet Jr., 56, a resident of Austin, Texas, died Thursday, June 23, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Lewiston, the son of Ernest and Margaret (Clabby) Chandonnet, on May 2, 1960.

Ernie attended Lewiston schools and, shortly after high school, moved to Texas to join a few of his family members. While residing in Texas, he had a number of careers, his last being a materials technician inspector. Ernie had an infectious personality that would draw in anyone. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, hiking and traveling to the coast of Texas with family and friends.

Ernie was the youngest of 12 brothers and sisters. Survivors include two brothers, Daniel and wife, Carol, of Lewiston and Patrick and wife, Alice, of Texas; four sisters, MaryEllen Couillard and husband, Leroy, of Sabattus, Eileen Chandonnet of Lewiston, Rose Mary Freve and husband, Richard, of Lisbon, and Susan Chandonnet of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by four brothers, Anthony, James, Michael and Thomas; as well as one sister, Sheila Brown.
