RUMFORD — Helena Carey Martin, 87, of Pine Street, Dixfield, a loving mother, grandmother and sister, reunited with her beloved husband, Sylvio, on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

She was born in Mexico, one of eight children to Edward and Estelle (Roy) Carey.

Helena was a lifelong resident of the River Valley. She was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1946.

She worked as a secretary for 33 years at the Rumford Paper Mill.

Helena was a faithful communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior.

She loved baking, playing cards, doing cross word puzzles, reading and in her younger years knitting, most of all she loved spending time with family.

Surviving are her children, Susan Napper and husband, John, of Ayer, Mass., Lisa Sleight and husband, Alan, of Carrabassett Valley, Pamela Child and husband, Tom, of Dixfield, and Andrea Hopkins and husband, Dave, of Augusta; a sister, Priscilla Draper of New Hampshire; eight grandchildren, David Napper, Christina Laham, Kelly Sleight, Mallory Murphy, Rachel Child, Riley Hopkins, Cari Hopkins and Brady Hopkins; and four great-grandchildren, Henry Napper-Schack, Eliana Laham, Ava Laham and Adrian Child.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Sylvio; twin baby boys; sisters, Bernice Robar and Ruth Boucher; and four brothers, Ted Carey, Dennis Carey, Robert Carey and Norman Carey.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Ellen Davis, Med Care Ambulance, the staff on Med Surge, Anesthesiology, and the OR Nurses at Rumford Hospital, Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Ledesma, the staff at the Pinnacle and Barbara Buzzell.
