TEMPLE — A home at 487 Intervale Road was damaged Monday morning when a fire ignited in a clothes dryer.

Glen Palmer returned home about 9:30 a.m. to see heavy black smoke through the windows, Temple Fire Chief David True said.

Palmer did not open the doors or go inside, which kept oxygen levels down. The fire was mostly contained to the laundry room of the double-wide home, True said. The laundry room, accessed through a side door, received extensive damage, he said. Some water used to fight the fire likely damaged the flooring in the kitchen area.

Firefighters used fans to push dense smoke from the home. When members of Farmington Fire and Rescue arrived with air packs, the firefighters went in and were able to attack the fire, he said.

No one was injured, but the home is currently uninhabitable, True said.  The home is insured. It’s not known if others lived at the home. A cat was able to escape.

About 15 firefighters responded, five from Temple Fire Department. Wilton and New Sharon fire departments were sent back, he said.

A NorthStar ambulance was also at the scene.
