Early Childhood Substitute Training Course

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer a course on becoming an early childhood substitute from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

This intensive introduction to working with young children will explain the steps involved in becoming a substitute. Background checks are required for these positions and will be completed as part of the workshop. Participants will build a portfolio and be prepared to apply for substitute positions.

Registration for this course is open and ongoing but space is limited. The cost is $29 and includes all materials. Deadline for registration is Aug. 31.

Pantry seeks book donations 

AUBURN — The High Street Food Pantry is seeking donations of children’s books.

Donations may be brought to the Auburn United Methodist Church, at 439 Park Ave.

Pinochle, pitch players welcome

LEWISTON — Pinochle and pitch card games for seniors are played weekly at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. They will begin Thursday, Sept. 1.

New players are always welcome. Pitch is played at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. Pinochle is at 1 p.m. on Thursdays. Refresher courses are available in both categories.

The armory is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Players must become a member to participate.
