1927 – 2016

SOUTH PARIS — Dorothy Wilson York passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, at the age of 89.

Dorothy was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Jackman to Leon Mel and Ruth (Bean) Wilson. Dorothy later moved to Hanover to attend Gould Academy, graduating with the Class of 1945. On Sept. 19, 1943, Dorothy married Garey Parker (Tucker) York.

Dorothy, known by many as “Dot,” worked at Dot’s Lunch in Hanover, which her parents named after her. She spent many years at Sunday River Skiway managing the cafeteria, owned and operated Martha’s Restaurant for 18 years and worked for the Bethel Savings Bank, now Northeast Savings Bank, for 17 years.

Dorothy was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Bethel, Chapter No. 102, accepting the Order’s highest local responsibility, the seat of Worthy Matron of Purity. 

She is survived by her three children, Sharon Kaiser and her husband, Peter, of Farmington, N.H., David York and his wife, Betsy, and Barbara York of Bethel; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey Kaiser of Casper, Wyo., Kara (Kaiser) Hutchins Cole of Rye, N.H., Kimberly (York) Starbird of Waterford, Katelyn (York) Merrill of Waterford, Kristy York of Bethel, Kyle York of Rumford, Travis York of Greenwood, Trisha Binette of Jacksonville, Fla., and Trevor Binette and Tashawna York of Bethel; and 10 great-grandchildren. Dorothy also leaves her sister, Kathryn Payn of Aurora, Colo.; and brother, Keith Wilson of Salem, N.H.

Dorothy was a devoted wife to Garey for over 59 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Garey; and her sister, Barbara Bryant.

The family of Dorothy York would like to show their appreciation to Market Square Healthcare Center for their care of Dorothy for the last year, as well as Beacon Hospice for their services over the last three months.
