Mayor at Neighborhood Watch meeting

AUBURN — A Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 7, at West Auburn Congregational Church.

Mayor Jonathan P. LaBonté will attend the meeting and share updates from City Hall. 

Volunteers from AARP will give a special presentation, How to Protect Yourself from Scams. They’ll teach residents to recognize common scams and what they can do to avoid them. A fraud prevention guide will be provided. 

Lakeside Chapter to meet

WALES — Lakeside Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road.

The meeting will be honoring the station of Ruth. The Grand Ruth has been invited.

Lady Officers should wear yellow. Gents will be in dark suits or tuxes.

The Chapter will travel to Lisbon Falls on Thursday, Sept. 15, to the ESTARL Supper.

Auburn Senior Center public meeting

AUBURN — There will be a public information meeting held to discuss the proposed Auburn Senior Center at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the Hasty Community Center at 48 Pettengill Park Road.

This meeting will allow for the public to view the proposed area of the Senior Center and allow for public suggestions and comments on the project.

Franco-American roots in Lisbon

LISBON FALLS — At the Lisbon Historical Society meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 14, the Rev. Robert Parent will give a talk on the area’s Franco-American ancestors.

The long road from France to Canada and then to the local area that many families embarked on has many fascinating details. Parent will talk about what circumstances lead them take the long journey to a new life far from home. He will also explain the origins of many family names, and also will give helpful details about researching Franco-American ancestry.

Parent is the director of the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society. The society archives at 217 Turner St., Auburn, houses more than 3,000 volumes of genealogical material. Many of these are church records, family histories, as well as a great many obituaries useful in tracing Franco-American families and ancestors.

The talk will take place in the Lisbon Historical Society archives, with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m. The Lisbon Historical Society is in the MTM Center on School Street; the entrance is at the rear of the building.

Storytellers’ muster in Waterville

WATERVILLE — The annual meeting of the Maine Storytelling Muster will convene from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the United Methodist Church on Pleasant Street.

The muster is an opportunity for storytellers to meet together, share information about storytelling events and focus on a particular theme. This year’s theme is Heirloom Stories: Passing Stories through the Generations.

The day’s events will include themed workshops, an on-site lunch, time for sharing events and happenings and concluding with the traditional story swap. A workshop for new tellers is included in the day’s offerings.
