Into the Woods to hunt mushrooms
BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Land Trust will hold its September “Into the Woods” speaker event at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Gould Academy’s McLaughlin Auditorium. Amanda Moran will share her knowledge and passion for hunting wild mushrooms.
Oriented toward the first-time hunter, Moran will show attendees how to identify and safely pick some of Maine’s most popular gourmet mushrooms. Beginner hunters who have some knowledge but would like to brush up on identification will also enjoy this in-depth exploration of local fungi.
The talk will be followed by a walk on Saturday, Sept. 17, where people may put their knowledge to practical use. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. at the Mahoosuc Land Trust Office, 18 Mayville Road, Bethel. It will be one of the Land Trust’s offerings for Great Maine Outdoor Weekend.
Oxford Central Electric Railroad
PARIS — Peter Hammond will discuss the Oxford Central Electric Railroad at the next meeting of the Paris Cape Historical Society at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at 77 High St.
Hammond will present the history of the railroad and the rebellion that broke out when the workers were not paid.
The meeting will be followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments. Everyone is welcome to come and view the society’s new addition to its museum.
3D pens at Treat Library
LIVERMORE FALLS — Treat Memorial Library will offer free try-it sessions with the new 3D pens beginning Thursday, Sept. 15.
The Library now owns a 3Doodler 2.0 and 3Doodler Start. Anyone age 8 years and older will enjoy the Start. Anyone age 14 years and up may find the 2.0 more challenging. These free sessions are an introduction to the use of these pens (emphasizing safety) and a chance to let creativity soar.
After the session, anyone wishing to use the pens (once they show they know how) may reserve times to create their own projects, but the library will charge for the plastic used.

Essentials of College Planning
WILTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host a free workshop, Essentials of College Planning, for adults age 19 and older at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Wilton Career Center, 865 U.S. Route 2 East.
