DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Auburn Housing Authority on 74 Lake Auburn Ave., known as the “Town House,” is celebrating its 50th year in operation as a home for the elderly. Before that, it was a corn factory. We are looking for any information that you might have concerning that factory. — Anita, Auburn.

ANSWER: Come on, readers, Sun Spots just knows there are those of you reading who have memories they can share of the corn factory. We look forward to hearing from you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanks for your information on everything. Could you please find out what has become of the character Dr. Daniel Jonas on the soap “Days of Our Lives” that plays on NBC at 1 p.m.?

Also, I crochet hats for schoolchildren in South Paris. I would like some spare yarn. Anyone who would like to donate to this hobby of mine and help to keep the little ones warm for this coming year would be very much appreciated. — No name, South Paris.

ANSWER: Dr. Daniel Jonas, portrayed by actor Shawn Christian, on “Days of Our Lives” from March 4, 2008, to Jan. 6, 2016, was written off the show earlier this year when his character died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident on New Year’s Eve (on the show). In the show, he was taken off life support a few days after the accident and his heart was used to save the life of another of the show’s characters, Brady Black.

According to the internet Movie Database, Christian remains busy with acting jobs, appearing in movies “Hidden Truth” and “Savannah Sunrise” in 2016, and another movie in post-production called “Last Seen in Idaho.”

As for your philanthropic hobby, readers who wish to donate yarn to your cause would benefit from some contact information for you or a location where they can send it.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there any place that sells used tires anymore? New tires are so expensive. I remember once upon a time when you could find used tires that were still in decent condition for between $10 and $20 apiece. Those were the good old days. — Martin, Mechanic Falls.

ANSWER: Though used tire prices now tend to begin at $20 and go up from there, you can occasionally still find them at certain locations. Finding full sets is more of a challenge, but if you’re looking to buy a good spare, for example, that might be an easier task.

Check with Tire Warehouse at 1455 Lisbon St. in Lewiston. They have a few in stock that range from $20 to $40 per tire. You can reach them by calling (207) 784-8218.

Grimmel’s, at 681 Lisbon St., has quite a few used tires, and often has them available in at least pairs, if not full sets of four. Depending on the amount of tread, they have tires for as low as $25 and up to $40 for trucks, which tend to run a little more because of their size. You can reach them by calling (207) 782-9160.
