GREENE — Republican state Rep. Steve Wood has apologized for sending a sarcastic email to a Massachusetts resident who complained about Gov. Paul LePage’s behavior.

After Laurie Hunt sent an email to State House Republicans saying that she wouldn’t visit the state this year because of LePage, Wood’s reply back to her started: “Hi Laurie thanks for not coming.”

Wood posted a public apology Wednesday morning on Facebook:

“To the people of Sabattus and Greene: I am sorry for my comments to the woman from MA. It was wrong of me to lose my temper in a public way. I have had so many phone calls and emails this weekend, most from people outside my district. One caller from MA called me a racist pig just like all you Republicans and your governor and then I got her email and I just lost my temper and responded unprofessionally. I should have just listened to my wife and let it go.”

Hunt, of Wakefield, Massachusetts, is the sister of Maine House Majority Leader Jeff McCabe, D-Skowhegan. Her email, which she apparently sent within the last week, said she regularly visits Maine but not this year because the Legislature failed to to take corrective action against LePage. The governor made national headlines in August for a profanity-laced voicemail tirade against another Maine lawmaker.

McCabe posted a screenshot of Wood’s response to his Facebook page.

Wood’s email read, “Hi Laurie thanks for not coming to Maine. We have a nought (sic) mass holes here in Maine that trying to tell us true maine r’s (sic) how to live our lives and what we can and can’t do. I don’t tell you how to run your state so don’t tell me how to run our state Thanks for not coming to Maine.”
