GREENWOOD — There will be a fish fry at the Greenwood Fire Department from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.

It will benefit the Fire Department and 15 seniors from Telstar High School, who plan to travel to Greece and Italy for 10 days shortly after graduation. The trip is not affiliated with the school and the students must come up with travel expenses, about $3,800 per person.

Telstar High School art teacher Tera Ingraham, adviser to the 15 students, said, “I am so excited about this trip and I am so proud of this group for taking on fundraising efforts. I told them I am willing to help but they need to step up and take charge if they want to raise money,” said Ingraham.

“When I explained the trip idea to some of my students, I saw their eyes light up at the thought of seeing Italy and Greece. I shared some of my travel stories with them and how it felt to see the world. There is so much history and different cultures to see outside of our own country,” she said.

She said she hopes it will “encourage the students to try new things, acquire valuable life skills through exploration and learn on a deeper level that what they have learned in the classroom connects to their own life.”

The event will raise money for tips throughout the trip, which will be about $70 per student.

The students will help the Fire Department with the fundraiser by selling cash calendars, scratch tickets and holding a 50/50 raffle. The Fire Department will donate some of the proceeds toward the trip.

A fish meal will be $10, and a chicken meal will be $8. The meal includes homemade french fries, a drink and dessert.
