Ride, auction honoring veteran

DURHAM — AMVETS Post 13 will hold a motorcycle ride and silent auction to raise money in honor of Staff Sgt. Thomas Field, who was killed in 1993 during the battle of Mogadishu, the battle depicted in the movie “Black Hawk Down.”

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17. Proceeds will benefit local veterans assistance and a scholarship in Field’s honor.

Hidden Treasures grand opening

SABATTUS — Loaves and Fishes will have its grand opening for Hidden Treasures at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at 759 Middle Road.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and light refreshments.

Loaves and Fishes has been having garage sales at the Dominican Sisters’ convent to raise funds for those in need since it was founded by Sister Lucille. As a result of many donations, the sale has moved to this new location as Hidden Treasures.

Proceeds from sales at Hidden Treasures, a nonprofit, are used to assist those in need.

Finding Your Roots at The Ark

LEWISTON — The Ark & Olive Branch Cafe will present its fall herb class, Finding Your Roots with Dr. Zach Mazone & Herbalist Jane Kuntz, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 791 Lisbon St. 

Participants will learn about roots they can harvest locally or purchase easily, and how to make remedies from these roots.

Cribbage league lists winners

LEWISTON — Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners on Sept. 8 were, first place, Don Mailliette and Dick Saucier; second, Ike Lecompte and Gerry Therrien; third, Arnie Burgess and Trudy Faunce; fourth, Edith Chambers and Dennis Gosselin; and fifth, George Bussiere and Jeannine Labbe.

Games are played on Thursdays at the Lewiston Memorial Armory.
