DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the person looking for a used-book dealer: Heritage Books & Maps is a small bookstore located at 5 Park Street in Lewiston. It specializes in military and history, but also has books from nearly any genre including Maine books and ephemera, first editions, old topographical maps, and classic record albums (including 70s rock). We’d love to talk to anyone interested in old books, maps and ephemera. — Linda, Lewiston.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The St. Mary’s Nutrition Center promotes community health through organizing, advocacy, and education. Located in the heart of downtown Lewiston, the Nutrition Center is home to a food pantry, cooking-centered nutrition education programs for all ages and in schools, job training for teens, year round farmers’ markets and the Good Food Bus, and the Lots to Gardens program, which uses 12 urban community gardens in downtown Lewiston to create access to local food, empower youth, and build community.
There are many ways to support the work of St. Mary’s Nutrition Center. Check out our wishlist for items that you may be able to contribute: a good digital camera, office supplies, raincoats for our youth gardeners, garden tools and supplies, musical instruments to use in youth workshops and team-building, kitchen equipment, especially a Vitamix blender and a commercial food processor, bikes for our Summer Youth Gardener program, a laptop and/or tablet for our Youth Media Crew, external hard-drive, table racks for all of our Nutrition Center tables. For food pantry clients, fire victims, victims of domestic abuse, and newly released from jail we need: pots & pans, can openers, cooking utensils; healthy food items: canned fruits and vegetables, frozen fruits and vegetables, whole grains, healthy convenience soups, canned tuna or chicken, herbs, 100% juices, peanut butter, healthy snacks for kids; diapers, formula. Some of the bigger wishes include: commercial refrigerators and freezers; items to help us make a root cellar: shelving, walls/insulation, flooring (crush), temp/humidity gauge and a Coolbot.
Another way to support the nutrition center is on Friday, September 23rd at 5:30 pm, when we will kick off the 11th Annual Nutrition Center Soirée! Tickets are still available on-line until they sell out (which is likely!). All proceeds support everything the Nutrition Center does. — No name, Lewiston.
