GRAY — A large tree was knocked down by heavy winds Wednesday evening, bringing down power lines and branches on Lewiston Road.
According to Central Maine Power officials, the first outage was reported at 4:56 p.m. At its peak, 2,938 customers were without power in Gray, New Gloucester and Pownal.
CMP line workers went out to fix the wires, bringing the outage number down to 872 customers by 8 p.m., officials said.
Lewiston Road was closed from Weymouth Road to Gray Square for nearly three hours while the tree was removed by a crew called in by CMP.
Power was expected to be fully restored by 9 p.m.
