Waterford Fall Foliage 5K Oct. 9
WATERFORD — The 17th annual Waterford Fall Foliage 5K Road Race, 5K Fitness Walk, 1-mile Fun Run and chili cook-off will take place Sunday, Oct. 9.
The run begins at 11:30 a.m. and costs $5. The 5K Road Race and Fitness Walk start at noon, and the cost is $20 in advance or $25 on race day.
Following the race, there will be a chili cook-off sponsored by the Waterford and Harrison Parent Teacher Organization. There will be free samples for all 5K participants.
All proceeds benefit the Tony Waldeier Scholarship Fund, which was started 17 years ago by John and Debbie Howe. Over 80 students have benefited from this race in their continuing studies, totaling about $54,000 in awards.
Race will be held rain or shine.

Canine, feline CPR class
BETHEL — SAD 44 Continuing Education is enrolling students for a pet CPR class with emphasis on canines and felines. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Telstar High School. Bobby Silcott is the instructor.
Participants will get a book and disk to reinforce the lesson at home.
Tuition is $80, and proceeds will provide pet oxygen masks for local fire departments.

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Sept. 9 for a 9½-table Mitchell movement.
Finishing first in flight A N/S were Hazel Glazier and Pete Cummings; second, Mike Quinn and Mike True; third, Eilene Potvin and Della Starbird; and fourth, Paul Clement and Richard Balian. Finishing first in flight B were Marjory Levesque and Barbara Vanderzanden, who were also first in flight C; second in B and C were Cindy and Bob Kirchher; third in B, Cynthia and Bill Clifford Jr.; fourth in B, Ellie and Lindy Wigton; and third in C, Linda Smith and Jack Neal.
Finishing first in flight A E/W were Marty Round and Martha Thurlow, who were also first in flight B; second in A, Claire Lyons and David Kallander, who were also second in flight B; third in A, Barbara Newcomb and Nancy Farmer; fourth in A, Diana and Frank Ferland, who were also third in B and first in C; fourth in B, Jim Krainin and Milt McKeen Jr.; third in C, B.J. and Steve Cavacchi; and fourth in C, Carla Adasse and David Erhman.
Games are played at 9:15 a.m. Fridays at the Oxford Recreation Building on King Street. All bridge players are welcome, and a partner is guarenteed.
