Red Cross lists blood drives

PORTLAND — The American Red Cross is urging eligible donors to give blood and platelets this fall to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients in need.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities include:

Auburn: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, Flagship Cinemas, 730 Center St.

Lewiston: 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 26, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, 99 Campus Ave.

Lewiston: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, 415 Lisbon St.

Durham: 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, AMVETS Post No. 13, 1049 Route 136, Royalsborough Road.

‘With a Touch of Humor’

MINOT — The Minot Historical Society and Hebron Historical Society will hold a potluck supper at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at West Minot Grange No. 42.

Following the supper, retired Game Warden John Ford and retired State Trooper Mark Nickerson will present “Every Day Experiences, with a Touch of Humor.” There’s one new publication, plus wildlife note stationary by Ford.

Food preservation workshop announced

LEWISTON — University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering “Preserving the Harvest,” a series of hands-on workshops in September.

Canning and Preservation will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Lewiston High School, 146 East Ave. The cost is $29.

UMaine Extension staff and volunteers will lead the workshops. Fresh produce, jars and other canning equipment will be provided. Fees include a sample to take home.

Sabattus Seniors to meet

SABATTUS — Sabattus Seniors will meet Thursday, Oct. 6, at Maxwell-Gill Hall.

Marine Corps League detachment meeting

LEWISTON — The Marine Corps League Central Maine Detachment 810 will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave.

All Marines, Fleet Marine Force Corpsman and Fleet Marine Force Chaplains may attend. Anyone interested in joining may also attend. Associate membership is open to those who are/were a Marine.
