SPRING HILL, Fla. — Mary J. Charity of Hudson, Fla., died Friday, Sept. 16, at Bayfront Health Hospital in Spring Hill, Fla.

She was the daughter of James and Madelyn L. McGinley (both now deceased) of Dixfield. Mary was born in Brooksville, Fla., and was a member of the Baptist Church there. She graduated from Dixfield High School in 1954 and was valedictorian of her class.

She then began studies as a student nurse at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, with a full scholarship. She married Louis Charity in 1956 in Dixfield, and the couple celebrated their 60th anniversary in January of this year.

Mary was a military wife, dealing successfully with all the separations and responsibilities inherent with her husband’s 22 years of military service. She worked in several facilities providing nursing care and as a clerk for the State of Kansas’s Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.

She was a member of the Leavenworth, Kan., Philomathean Club and the Leavenworth County Artists Association, where she served as president for one year. She was an avid artist, selling many of her paintings.

Mary is survived by her husband, Louis; sons, Wayne of Catharpin, Va., Brian of Shawnee, Kan., and Norman of Lansing, Kan.; daughters, Lisa of Aripeka, Fla., and Carol of Leavenworth, Kan.; sisters, Glynda Childs of Andover and Andrea Dobbs of Sunnyvale, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
