FARMINGTON — The Sandy River Players of Farmington will host auditions for the musical “1776” Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2 and 4, at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Auditions will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 1 in Roberts C23; from 1 to 4 p.m. in Nordica Auditorium; and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Lincoln Auditorium.
“1776” tells the story of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson as they debate and vote to approve the Declaration of Independence in the sweltering summer heat in colonial Philadelphia.
“People have said to me that they really want to be a part of it, or they can’t wait to see it,” said Karen West, co-director. “Folks know that now is the perfect time for this musical which deals with themes that certainly ring true today.”
There are at least 26 roles available for casting, with 24 men and two women specified by the script. The players may also cast women in male roles or cast an all-female chorus in order to maximize community participation in the show. Ages of the roles vary from late teens to late middle age.
Those planning on auditioning should come prepared to read scenes from the script and sing a song of their choosing, either a cappella or with an accompanist, which will be provided. They should also plan on singing from the score as part of a group.
Seven performances will be scheduled during the weekends of Jan. 14 and 21, 2017.
