1926 – 2016

LISBON — Frank O. Gross Jr., 90, of Lisbon passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Frank was born in Kissimmee, Fla., on Aug. 20, 1926, to Frank Sr. and Madelyn Gross. He attended Lisbon schools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. On July 26, 1947, he married Helena C. Emery and worked as a building contractor from 1959 until his retirement.

In his retirement years, Frank was an accomplished artist who was much admired in the Lisbon and Lewiston-Auburn areas. His favorite subjects included local historical buildings, as well as still lifes and scenes of the American frontier. In 2010, the town of Lisbon honored Frank by installing a mural replicating his painting of Main Street in the 1930s on the Downeast Energy building. Many of Frank’s paintings are still on display at various public buildings and the MTM Community Center in Lisbon Falls.

He leaves behind his daughter, Andrea; and his sons, Frank O. Gross III, Bartholomew, Marshall and his wife, Irene, Whitney and his wife, Stephanie; and six grandchildren.

Frank was predeceased by his son Matthew in 1974; and Helena, his wife of 62 years, in 2010.

Friends and family are invited to share their memories and offer their condolences by visiting Frank’s online guest book at www.crosmanfuneralhome.com.
