Barker Mill Arms on Mill Street in Auburn was the subject of last week’s Mystery Photo. Built in 1873, the five-story brick building has a rather ornate design compared to most mills from that era. It was the first major mill on the Auburn side of the Androscoggin River, utilizing power from a waterfall on the Little Androscoggin River that flows past. The mill produced shirting, sheeting and other woven textiles for many years. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. Betty Bates had no problem identifying the photo — she lives in one of the 111 rental units. She is the winner of a $20 gift card from Hannaford Supermarkets.
