LEWISTON — Catherine (Yvette) Poirier Bergeron, age 92, of Lewiston, passed away early Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, at Montello Manor, with her family at her side.

She was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Lewiston, a daughter of Olivier and Lena (Bonneau) Poirier. Catherine was educated in Lewiston schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. Catherine was known as a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress while working at the Libbey Mill for years. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her siblings and friends.

Her passion was sewing and knitting for her family, making quilts and countless hats, scarves and mittens for her grandchildren. She enjoyed holding yard sales and craft shows as a hobby.

Special projects included knitting mittens for Androscoggin Head Start and Blessed Sacrament Church and School of Holyoke, Mass.

In 2013, she gave up her apartment and became a permanent resident at Montello Commons where she continued her passion for making mittens. She enjoyed new friendships during her stay, along with the caring staff. She came to know them all as extended family.
