Legion hosting Karaoke Fridays

AUBURN — The William J. Rogers Post No. 153, American Legion, and Auxiliary Unit No. 153 will hold Karaoke by Jean Louis at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at the post home. 

The next Karaoke will be held at Oct. 21. Lobster rolls will be served at 4:30 p.m. for $5 each or two for $9. 

Participants should come dressed as their favorite idol to win prizes during the costume contest on Oct. 21.

‘Our Mutual Friend’ at Pickwick Club

AUBURN — The Pickwick Club, Maine’s mostly Dickens reading and discussion group, will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Auburn Library.

“Our Mutual Friend, Books 3 and 4” will be discussed led by moderator Sherrie Baker.

KLT’s Family Forestry Day

LEEDS — The Kennebec Land Trust will host Family Forestry Day from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Curtis Homestead.

Visitors will learn about forest stewardship, sustainable timber-harvesting practices, and tree identification through a series of demonstrations with presentations from a forester, logger, saw mill operator and log scaler.

The program is geared to third graders through adult. The forestry program will take place at Gov. Ken Curtis’ childhood home, KLT’s 360-acre Curtis Homestead Conservation area in Leeds, and will be a great opportunity for anyone who may be considering careers in forestry, wildlife management, or related outdoor work or interested in learning more about forest stewardship.

LEEDS — The Leeds Historical Society will present Leeds Ghosts: Past and Present at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, on the lower level of the Leeds Town Office, 8 Municipal Drive.

Poltergeists, ghostly women in transparent nightgowns, men in frock coats and tall hats, crop circles … they’re all part of Leeds’ “other-worldly” history. The program will feature stories about these apparitions with a few more good old ghost stories to round out the afternoon.

The program will be suitable for all ages and is free and open to the public. People are encouraged to bring their own ghostly stories to share. Refreshments will be served.

LEEDS — The Leeds Historical Society will present Leeds Ghosts: Past and Present at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Town Office, 8 Municipal Drive.

Featured will be poltergeists, men in frock coats and tall hats, and other ghostly members of the town’s “otherworldly” history.

Also taking part is Cathy Cook of Wayne, author of “Hauntings From Wayne and Beyond,” and Annette Parlin, a medium/clairvoyant from Temple who’s been doing ghost investigations professionally for over 10 years. Parlin also does psychic readings.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own ghostly stories to share.

The event is suitable for all ages, but not geared toward children. It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
