Operation Santa Claus accepting applications
BUCKFIELD — Operation Santa Claus, a nonprofit with the goal of providing winter clothing, toys and a book to children of Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner, is now accepting applications at the Buckfield Town Office.

AHCH’s Autumn Night Out
POLAND — Some tickets remain available for Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s 13th annual Autumn Night Out slated for Friday, Oct. 21, at the Poland Spring Resort.
The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. when attendees can enjoy hors d’oeuvres and bid on a wide variety of silent auction items. Dinner will be followed by a live auction led by Maine humorist Gary Crocker, and Norm Karkos will serve as the evening’s master of ceremonies.
Autumn Night Out is AHCH’s signature fundraising event, and all proceeds benefit AHCH programs and services.
Tickets to Autumn Night Out are $65 per person. Tables of six or 10 may be reserved.

Getting Back to Nature hike
BUCKFIELD — Carl Costanzi of 5210 Let’s Go! Oxford County will lead a guided hike, Getting Back to Nature, from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.
During this 3-mile hike through the Virgil Parris Forest Preserve, hikers will view areas of high value plant and animal habitats, exemplary natural communities, and significant wildlife habitat for deer, waterfowl and wading birds. Costanzi will speak a little about the history of the preserve and the trail systems that provide access to many beautiful sights.
The hike will begin at the South Pond boat launch on the east side of the pond. The hikers will ascend a hill overlooking the pond on a new, low-impact trail (as yet unnamed). The ascent and descent are gradual, so the hike is accessible to beginners.
Those wishing to carpool may meet at 8 a.m. in the Stephens Memorial Hospital’s Ripley Medical Building parking lot.

New Sharon library book sale
NEW SHARON — The Jim Ditzler Memorial Library will hold its Fall Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.

Phillips Historical Society meeting, potluck supper
PHILLIPS — The Phillips Historical Society’s annual meeting and potluck supper is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Phillips Community House.
Following the supper, there will be a video presentation of this year’s accomplishments and a program on “The Last Villages of Flagstaff Lake” by Kenny Wing and Allan Burnell. Copies of the book will be available to purchase.
Members and guests are invited to bring a dish to share.

Vendors sought for Andover fair
ANDOVER — The Andover Parent Teacher Group is seeking vendors for its annual Craft/Vendor Fair scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.
The fair is a village-wide event and will include sales from around the community.
Space may be reserved for $25 for one table or $40 for two tables.
