1924 – 2016

AUBURN — Betty H. Moore, 91, of Lisbon, formerly of Farmington, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.

She was born Dec. 26, 1924, the daughter of Alton and Beatrice McGee in Norridgewock. Betty was a shy and kind person who loved being with family and she treasured family memories.

Betty was the oldest of 10 children. Due to family hardship, she spent her preschool years with her beloved grandparents in Norridgewock. In 1939 she graduated from the Little Red Schoolhouse in Starks and in 1943 graduated from Madison High School.

After graduation Betty worked at the Convalescent Home for Children in Wellesley, Mass. She cared for many children in her lifetime. Betty was employed at J.J. Newbury in Farmington for 17 years.

She was a member of the Franklin County Extension, joined the UMF Fitness Center and walked many miles with her neighborhood friend, Lou Hagerstrom. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, making baskets, crocheting, drawing and she loved eating out. She and Wendall enjoyed many summers at their camp on Embden Pond.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Laura J. Neil and husband, Collin, of Farmington and Kathy A. Moore of Auburn; her son, Steven Moore and wife, Penny, of Temple; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hughes, Jaclyn Johnston, Carole Jane Neil, Carleton Neil, Ivan Moore and Megan Moore Crandall; five great-grandchildren, Connor, Catherine, Jonah, Ethan, and Nate; three sisters, Norma Brown of Massachusetts, Darcy Lyons of Skowhegan, and Linda Levesque of Lisbon; two brothers, Joe McGee of Ohio and Carl McGee of New Gloucester; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wendall; two brothers, Lynn and Allan McGee; and two sisters, Ruth Daggett and Dawnie Grindall.
