WOODSTOCK — Maine State Police will have a greater presence in Woodstock after settling into an office at 366 Route 232, Town Manager Vern Maxfield told selectmen at their meeting Tuesday.

Maxfield said PACE ambulance employees and one or two state troopers will use the building for the foreseeable future. The town volunteered the building at no cost to the service members.

“We just see it as a good thing for the town,” Maxfield said.

Joe Martin of Rumford, the Republican candidate for House District 115, attended the meeting.

“He told us the different things he wanted to achieve and gave his credentials for serving,” said Maxfield.

In other business, the contract to supply electricity to town properties and streetlights has been finalized with C.N. Brown. The agreement will go into effect Nov. 1 and run until Jan. 1, 2018.

Selectmen also learned that the town may have to pay to remove asbestos from two town properties. One is across from the end of Rumford Avenue, and the other is across from Littlefield Campground, which the town is considering for a boat launch.

Depending on the cost, selectmen will decide whether or not to pursue the process.

“We’d like to spend less than $5,000,” Maxfield said.

Selectmen will receive estimates this week.
