Unless there is great public opposition, all future streets in Auburn’s residential subdivisions will remain privately owned and maintained, and there will be no more streets ending in cul-de-sacs anywhere in the city. That was the result of a City Council vote Monday night that approved, on first reading, two ordinances proposed by Ward 1 Councilor George Mottram, who said he wanted the changes to save taxpayers money. But Auburn residents almost lost their chance to address the ordinances at all when Mottram made a motion to dispense with procedure and have the second reading right away. His motion failed 2-3.
