A new poll by the Maine People’s Resource Center gives Hillary Clinton a solid statewide lead, but only slightly up in the 2nd Congressional District, where one electoral vote is at stake.

The poll, based on phone calls to 890 likely votes, pegged Clinton’s overall lead in Maine at 42-36 in a four-person race or 49-39 if only the major party candidates are included.

But in the 2nd District, which includes Lewiston and Auburn, the race is nearly deadlocked, with Clinton up 38-37, well within the margin of error.

However, when voters could only pick between Trump and Clinton, the Democrat held a 46-39 lead in the district.

In a four-way contest, Libertarian Gary Johnson has the support of 11 percent of 2nd District voters while Green Party contender Jill Stein has 4 percent. About 12 percent of voters in the district said they are undecided.

MPRC describes itself as “a non-partisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to giving Maine people, especially those who are under-represented in civic life, skills and information to participate in the decision-making processes that affect them.”

The poll, conducted on Oct. 14 and 15, has a 3.3 percent margin of error.

Details of the poll are available online.
