SOUTH PARIS — Jean Barbara Bessey Foster, 84, of South Paris peacefully passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, following a long decline with Alzheimer’s.

Jeannie, as she was always called, was the eldest daughter of the eight children of Leo and Marguerite Bessey of Buckfield. She graduated from Buckfield High School. She married Erland Lee Foster of South Paris on June 29, 1951. Jeannie worked for many years at Brown’s Apparel Shop in Norway and always was sharply dressed as a result. She also worked at Pike’s Clothing in Norway until the Pikes sold it.

Her passions were her family, baking/cooking and her gardens. She was truly wonderful at all of them. Jeannie’s gardens were always beautiful and she couldn’t wait for the snow to melt and the sun to warm the soil so she could get out and dig in the dirt. Her husband, Erland, passed away in June of this year, and she declined quickly after he was gone.

She is survived by her son, Richard Foster and his wife, Vickie (Wing); daughter, Becky Roy, and her husband, Peter; grandson, Joel Foster and his partner, Hannah Lincoln; and granddaughter, Annmarie Foster. Her surviving siblings are Sylvia Bessey Horton of Owls Head, Linda Bessey Wakefield of South Paris, Lawrence Bessey of Jay and Paul Bessey of Auburn, Ala.

The family gratefully thanks the staff at Market Square Health Care Center for the care she received the past two and a half years. They also feel blessed for Jeannie to have been followed by Beacon Hospice as the care and support from them was exceptional and heartfelt. Jeannie will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her love, but she is now at peace and with Erland and some other special people in the land beyond.
