LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus will offer A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls, a program for seniors who have turned down a chance to go out with families or friends because they are concerned about falling or who have cut down on a favorite activity because they might fall.

Fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in severe physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater.

Many older adults also experience increased isolation and depression when they limit their interactions with family and friends. This program can help people improve their quality of life and remain independent.

A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants will learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.

SeniorsPlus will offer A Matter of Balance from 1:30 to 3:30 on Fridays, Nov. 4 to Dec. 30, at the Education Center at SeniorsPlus 8 Falcon Road, Lewiston. There will not be class on Nov. 25.

A workbook is provided and registration is required.

FMI, register, 207-795-4010.
