Two Phillips volunteer firefighters and a local pilot will be honored by the Kiwanis International Foundation Nov. 20 for their heroism in rescuing passengers from the burning wreckage of a plane that crashed in Phillips July 24. Firefighter Michael Morgan and his son, Jaime Morgan, will join pilot Robert Childs in receiving the national award, the Robert P. Connelly Medal, which is given to those “who risked their lives to save the lives of others, performing service above and beyond the call of duty.” The medal is “a dramatization of the organization’s most cherished bit of underlying philosophy: the assumption of individual responsibility,” said Roy Darlington, immediate past president of the Mount Blue Area Kiwanis Club of Farmington.
