SUMNER — Congregational Church of East Sumner will host a community potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at 50 Main St./Route 219.

The church will offer casseroles and dessert, as well as a raffle for baked goods and household items.

Proceeds will benefit the outreach mission.

LEIWSTON — Mom’s Smokin’ Pumpkin Soup, Roasted Butternut Squash Soup and Jen’s Meaty Chili are just a few of the tasty offerings that can be sampled at the third annual Soup, Chili and Chowder Challenge to benefit patient care at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Hospice House.

The event takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at 130 Mill St.

Those who attend will be able to sample all of the soups, chowders and chilis entered by talented cooks who are competing for prizes and bragging rights. Celebrity judges will determine the Judges’ Favorite award winner, while other event-goers will cast their votes to decide the People’s Choice winner.

All recipes will be included in a cookbook, which will be available for $3. In addition, there will be a door prize and a 50-50 raffle.

The event is organized annually by the Dream Team, one of several groups that raises money during the year and makes its final donation at AHCH’s annual Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walks. These walks will take place May 7, 2017, in Farmington and May 21, 2017, in Auburn.

Cost: $12 for adults; $7 for children ages 4 to 12; free for children younger than 4.

LIVERMORE — A hunters’ breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Masonic Lodge, 60 Church St.

SABATTUS — Harry J. Conway Post 135, American Legion, will serve a community breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Legion Post, 40 Island Road.

The breakfast will have a special guest, American Legion Auxiliary National President Mary Davis.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets will host a Veterans Day breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Ramada Inn, 490 Pleasant St.

Also planned is a recognition of the Lewiston High School staff members who were instrumental in starting the AFJROTC unit at LHS in 1989.

FARMINGTON — Farmington Police and Farmington Fire and Rescue with assistance from the Farmington American Legion will serve a community fundraising meal — the End of the Year Barbecue.

It will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, at the Farmington Municipal Building, 153 Farmington Falls Road.

All proceeds and donations will be sent to and benefit the Travis Mills Foundation.

The foundation supports combat injured veterans and their families through long-term programs that help these heroic men and women overcome physical obstacles, strengthen their families and provide well-deserved rest and relaxation.

The barbecue will include a performance by local county artist Mark Gentle.
