FARMINGTON — Former Wilton Selectperson Terry Brann won the Franklin County Commissioner District 1 seat over long time Commissioner Gary McGrane of Jay.
With unofficial results reported for Carthage, Jay, Temple and Wilton by early Wednesday, Brann was elected 2,830-2,402 over McGrane.
Brann, a Republican, took his hometown of Wilton 1,389-739 while McGrane, a Democrat, took his hometown of Jay, 1,113-1,422.
Brann also claimed Temple by a vote of 168-137 and Carthage, 160-104.
McGrane, 65, has represented District 1 for 27 years. Brann, 71, is a former Wilton selectperson and a former member of the Franklin County Budget Advisory Committee.
McGrane’s term ends on Dec. 31.
“I would like to thank the good people of who voted for me in Jay, Wilton, Carthage and Temple, and I will work really, really hard to try and do what I promised to try and save money by reducing the taxes without affecting the services the county provides,” Brann said.
McGrane was not immediately available for comment.
Both Brann and McGrane maintained, if elected, they will work to keep the county tax rate stable. They also agreed that it is important for commissioners and the county’s budget committee to work together to develop a responsible budget.
