DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are looking for the names and telephone numbers, if possible, of the electricity providers for this area. We want to compare prices prior to renewing our current contract. Thank you. — No name, Greene.
ANSWER: Customers of Central Maine Power can get their electricity generation supply from either the standard offer or a competitive electricity provider. According to Maine.gov, the standard offer is currently the lowest price, which is measured in cents per kilowatt hour, but the prices offered from the CEPs may be subject to change. It’s important to call and find out the current rate and whether it is fixed or variable. They are not regulated in the same way as CMP, with only some oversight by the Public Utilities Commission, so it is important to fully understand the provider’s offer and terms.
Here is a list of CEPs for the state of Maine:
* Ambit Energy, 877-282-6248;
* C.N. Brown Electricity, 207-739-6444;
* Clearview Electric, 800-527-3233;
* Electricity Maine, 866-573-2674;
* FairPoint Energy, 866-842-1084;
* Mega Energy of Maine, 713-590-3347;
* North American Power, 888-313-9086; and
* XOOM Energy, 888-997-8979.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The L/A Veterans Council will present its annual Veterans Ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Armory on Central Avenue in Lewiston. The Edward Little Marching Band will perform, special guests will say a few words, and several color guards will participate in a Pass in Review, where veterans of each branch will stand and salute their military service flag as it passes by the stage. The public is invited to thank our servicemen and women and veterans for their sacrifice. For more information, call Bert Dutil at 207-786-2305.
The Council is also taking applications for Monument No. 29, to be unveiled Memorial Day Weekend 2017, Saturday at 10 a.m. Any veteran’s family can have a family member or friend’s name inscribed on our next monument next year. The L/A Veterans Council will have the honor of having retired U.S. Air Force Gen. William J. Begert do the unveiling. He will have seven members of the Begert family’s name on that stone.
All you need to have a name inscribed on our monuments is to be a veteran of any branch of the service, honorably discharged or on active duty, living or deceased. A copy of their DD214 or Honorable Discharge is recommended, or any other proof of service. You can email Normand Cote, L/A Council vice chairman, at [email protected] or call him at 207-782-1725 for an application. Monument No. 29 is filling up quite fast, so the sooner you get your application in, the sooner you will be sure to have that name included on the list of veterans. This would be an appropriate gift for Veterans Day on Nov. 11 or for a Christmas gift. — Normand Cote, Lewiston.
