1945 – 2016
AUBURN — Kathleen A. Cummings, 71, of South Paris, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 4, at Clover Health Care in Auburn.
She was born June 28, 1945, the daughter of Helen and Walter Matson. In 1963, she graduated with high honors in the second graduating class of Oxford Hills. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Maine in Orono.
Kathy worked as a medical secretary at Maine Medical Center and, more recently, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
She enjoyed traveling and was active in the Finnish-American Heritage Society, based in West Paris. She played the kantele, a Finnish lap harp, in a group that was often invited to play in various locations throughout the state. Each week she looked forward to the challenge of the New York Times crossword puzzle and eagerly worked on it with her husband, Peter.
An animal lover, she particularly loved her horse, Apache, and dog, Matsi, whom she spoiled shamelessly.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Cummings; and her brother, Walter and sister-in-law, Ursula Matson, of Framingham, Mass.
